Arna

The small, picturesque village of Arna, is a beautiful, green place built at an altitude of 750 m.,on the eastern slopes of Taygetos.
It is surrounded by plane trees, apple trees, chestnut trees, walnut trees and aromatic herbs, while inside the village you will find stone cobbled streets and springs with crystal clear water.

The most famous natural monument of the area, the famous over millennium plane tree, with a height that reaches 30 meters and a perimeter that exceeds 13 meters is at the centre of the village square, giving shade under its branches during the summer. Directly opposite the famous plane tree, you will can quench your thirst at the beautiful marble fountain of Ftialina and enjoy local delicacies in the taverns of the village. The popular Chestnut Festival takes place at the end of October in Arna and attracts visitors from all over Greece.

From Arna, following the E4 international hiking path towards the spring of Agia Marina you will reach the Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa. Alternatively, following the path towards neighboring Spartia you will arrive to the church of Agios Dimitrios, situated in the heart of the forest of Vasiliki, which is full of firs and black pines.
