Koumantareios Gallery

The Koumantareios Galley of Sparta is housed in the former "Valasaki house", in a remarkable neoclassical mansion of the early twentieth century. It is a donation of Dolly Goulandris and her brother Georgios Koumandaros in honor of their art-loving father, Ioannis Koumandarou, who dreamed of founding a Gallery in his hometown. The Commandarios Gallery was inaugurated in 1982 and operates as a branch of the National Gallery.
The Gallery includes a permanent exhibition on MODERN GREEK ART 19th - 20th century. The exhibition proposes a brief diagram of the history of modern Greek art, based on the main artistic trends and the most important issues that developed from the first years of the creation of the Greek state until today.
